On 17 October 2012, the Commission published a proposal to limit global land conversion for biofuel production, and to improve the climate benefits of biofuels used in the EU.
The proposal is currently under discussion in the European Parliament. On June 25th the ITRE committee (associated committee) published its final report which will go into plenary voting. The voting in the lead committee ENVI is scheduled for July 11th.

Request for Commission priority for guidance on definitions of new feedstocks in RED Annex IX
JOINT REQUEST
The Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2024/1405, adopted on 14 March 2024, amends Annex IX of the Renewable Energy Directive, broadening the scope of feedstocks eligible for Annex IX biofuels production. This includes intermediate crops and non-food/feed crops grown on severely degraded land.
